I’ve decided not to repeat my 2011 resolution, having learned from it what I was supposed to. For 2012, the diet-and-exercise route is far too quotidian; I’ve already planned for my transition to a plant-based diet and always-improving cardiovascular health. I won’t waste a resolution on such tweaks. Instead, in my new year, my minimalist resolutions are to:
Love fearlessly.
Banish fretting.
Go into the wilderness at every opportunity.

I Heartily approve of your resolutions. Here I will resolve to love my work and play the mandolin as consistently as possible.

And you will see the fruit of both.

#2 is a maintenance issue and well chosen. Fretting is a complete waste of time.
Nos. 1 & 3 are ‘edge finders’ – high risk opportunities to learn who you really are.
Without that knowledge, there can be little happiness: with it, anything is possible.
I admire the ‘fearlessly’ part . . . it is not so much conscience but fear doth make cowards of us all.

I never thought that #1 and #3 might have a connection until your comment. They clearly do. It’s possible that, for me, learning to love fearlessly is the emotional equivalent of going into the wilderness.
I had another adverb originally, but it wasn’t right. “Fearlessly” is the needed word.

Resolution-to keep the aging brain cells going-with the usual outside activities (walking, hiking, ice skating, cross country skiing, swimming, biking) and, a new project for me, learning Biblical Greek. The study starts Tuesday evening, taught by our pastor. Believe it or not, there are other people signed up. I haven’t studied a language for many years so this should be interesting.
Happy New Year and in the words of Tiny Tim, “God Bless Us Every One!”

VERY proud of you. I took an intensive New Testament Greek mini-course from a professor at Oberlin College when I was 18, just for pure fun. “Fun” might be the wrong word but if you have a good teacher, the mind-stretching makes it wonderfully worthwhile. Can’t wait to hear!

That attitude will get you everywhere. Better to have a Positive Approach and move on, than play the Blame Game. 😉
